Do you really want to purchase a valve that leaks right out of the box??? In most cases, your steam valve leaks on water. Imagine how much it leaks on steam. If your brand new valve doesn't give you bubble-tight shutoff, it will only get worse. Small leaks across the sealing surface of a valve lead to damage of the surface by erosion. Valves in steam service are especially susceptible to damage due to the extremely high velocity reached by the steam as it travels through the small orifice created by the leak path. Once started, this damaging process continues as the high energy of the leaking steam causes further erosion of the sealing surface and, ultimately, a leak rate that adversely affects plant performance (heat rate).</div> <bR> <div> Historically, the industry has approached the leaky valve problem by establishing maintenance programs or using on line sealing systems to plug the leak and by replacing the valve at the next opportunity.
